This video is about one particular dish from the Onam sadhya using buttermilk and raw banana called Vazhalakai Kalan|Kalan. It’s generally made with raw banana, white pumpkin or yam. It’s cooked with buttermilk and ground masala of coconut, cumin and fresh pounded spices of black pepper and fenugreek seeds. It is served on the feast with Kerala Matta rice. This is a very famous Kerala dish, which also has a very good taste. Which is as delicious as mor kozhambu.

Ingredients

Raw banana – 3 no’s
Buttermilk – 1/2 litre
Fresh grated coconut – 1/2 no’s
Green chillies – 3 to 4 no’s
Cumin seed – 1 tsp
Black peppercorn – 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seed – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
Chilli powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt – to taste
Curry leaves – 2 sprig

Tempering:

Red chilli – 2 to 3 no’s
Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Fenugreek seed – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
